The PaybyCar system, created by an in-vehicle payment pioneer, headquartered in Boston, car owners to buy gas from their car without taking out money, a credit card, or a smartphone app. With travelers preferring the service and selecting the payment method, such as debit card or e-wallet, that they can use for non-toll charges, PayByCar is ‘flawless’. Transactions through PayByCar do not go via a standard toll account with the E-Z Card but are fully reimbursed to the payment form selected.
Whenever a person drives to a partnering dealer, the toll transmitter on the vehicle and the presence of the driver’s mobile phone is registered by a PayByCar RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) reader. The device sends an SMS text message to the mobile of the customer and responds with only the pump details. PayByCar triggers the pump instantly, records the purchase in the non-tolling account, charges the payment, and sends an email confirmation for the transaction with retail deals.
Recently, Gentex Corporation, a major provider to the automotive sector of the virtual image and connected car technology, and PayByCar, a vendor of transaction-based vehicle services, unveiled a commercial partnership that would enable a growing number of drivers to directly pay from their vehicle for gas and other necessities.
